BASICS

BASICS* offers you the opportunity to have a confidential conversation with a provider about your alcohol and/or cannabis use. BASICS is not an abstinence only program and you will not automatically be told to stop drinking or using cannabis. In BASICS, you can:

  • discuss your alcohol and/or cannabis use in a supportive and nonjudgmental atmosphere,
  • explore what is right for you and your goals, and
  • consider how you might maintain what is working for you and/or make changes that you choose.

Any Princeton student is welcome to participate in BASICS at no cost. Some students are referred to BASICS by someone concerned about their alcohol and/or cannabis use.

The aim of BASICS is to reduce the harmful problems associated with alcohol and/or cannabis misuse. Some topics covered in BASICS sessions include:

  • Personalized blood alcohol content (BAC) information
  • Brain functioning
  • Sleep
  • Social norms and patterns

BASICS involves your completion of an online assessment tool and a virtual meeting with a BASICS provider to review your responses.
