Sept. 13, 2022 Changes to state laws concerning abortions may impose inequity of access to care for some SHP enrollees. As a result, the Student Health Plan (SHP) is adding new coverage that should mitigate the impact of state law on SHP enrollees. Effective immediately, the Princeton student health insurance plan will provide a travel and lodging benefit up to $100 per day for the patient and a family member or support person, to access any needed care, including reproductive health care, when it is unavailable in-network within 100 miles of the patient’s home. This benefit is limited to $10,000 per year. Members must travel to a location where the services are legally permissible. Members will need to verify there is no in-network provider within 100 miles of their place of residence. For all services except abortion, members are required to call member services to confirm provider availability. Per IRS regulation, the lodging reimbursement is limited to $50 per night per patient, up to $100 total per night including the patient’s travel companion (such as a spouse or partner) You can choose to limit the reimbursement to either $10,000 per occurrence, OR any annual maximum up to $10,000. This maximum is separate from any service limitation. At this time, no prior authorization for the travel and lodging benefit is required. However, members are responsible for attesting there’s no network provider within 100 miles of their home address. If you have any questions regarding this coverage, please contact the Student Health Plan office at 609-258-3138, Monday-Friday, 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m., or email [email protected]
