Complementary Medicine Expense benefits offered through the Student Health Plan (SHP) are being modified effective March 1, 2019.  This may impact undergraduate students, graduate students and student dependents enrolled in the SHP for the 2018-19 academic year who are currently receiving complementary medicine services. Complementary Medicine Expense benefits include the following:  Pain Management, Chiropractic, Acupuncture, Massage Therapy and/or Biofeedback.

Modification to Coverage:

  • Chiropractic  – Limited to 30 visits per year with 2 modalities per visit.
  • Acupuncture – Limited to 10 visits per year.
  • Massage Therapy & Biofeedback – Limited to 10 combined visits per year.

Effective March 1, 2019

All complementary medicine expenses will be covered at 80% of the negotiated charge for In-Network (Preferred Care) or 50% of the recognized charge for Out-of-Network (Non-Preferred Care).

Complementary medicine services received between September 1, 2018 - February 28, 2019 will reflect coverage limits and coinsurance for both Preferred Care (In-Network) and Non-Preferred Care (Out-of- Network) in accordance with the Student Health Plan’s previously published benefits.  If you have already accrued benefits that reach the new limits being put into effect on 3/1/2019, you will have no additional benefits available to you for the remainder of the plan year.
