Summary of all Recent Extensions of SHP Benefit Changes

Notice Regarding Changes to COVID-19 Testing, Telehealth/Telemedicine Coverage, Increased Coverage for certain Out of Network Benefits and Coverage for In Network and Out of Network COVID-19 Hospitalizations

Please note the new extensions of coverage for the following services:    

Effective 3/13/2020 through 8/31/2020, the following changes are implemented:

  • Referrals from University Health Services for off-campus medical care are not required.

Effective 3/17/2020 through 9/30/2020, the following changes are implemented:

  • COVID-19 testing and related expenses will be covered at 100%1.
  • All telehealth/telemedicine, which includes all medical and behavioral health care, will be covered at 100%.

Effective 3/26/2020 through 9/30/2020, the following change is implemented:

  • All In Network COVID-19 related hospitalizations will be covered at 100%1.

Effective 4/10/2020 through 9/30/2020, the following changes are implemented:

  • All Out of Network COVID-19 related hospitalizations will be covered at 100%1.

Effective 4/10/2020 through 8/31/2020, the following changes are implemented:

  • For those Out of Network Benefits currently covered at 70%, coverage will be increased to 80%.

Effective 5/29/2020 through 8/31/2020, the following changes are implemented:

  • For students who commenced medical leave on or after March 1, 2020 and whose “90 day extension of coverage due to disability” will terminate prior to the end of the plan year (August 31, 2020), those students may request an additional 90 day extension of coverage. This extension is available to students who are not able to secure coverage through a parent’s or spouse’s health plan and is available by request to the SHP office – email shpo@princeton.edu.

1Note: 100% coverage means no co-pays, no coinsurance and no deductibles for both In and Out of Network care and for the Princeton University Exclusive Mental Health Provider Network (EPN). The changes noted above supersede and replace the Student Health Plan documents during the above noted effective dates.
